We are excited for your son or daughter to prepare to meet Jesus in this special sacrament! First Holy Communion is celebrated around the age of reason - at our parish, most commonly in the 3rd grade. The Eucharist is a gift that takes a lifetime to understand; it is a gift that requires a significant response from us, and this is why the Church takes care to make sure children are well prepared.
Preparation at Saint Bernadette
At your child's Baptism you, the parents, agreed that you would be the "first and best teachers of your children in the faith." Your involvement in preparation for Eucharist is crucial. The absolute best preparation for First Communion is taking your child to Mass regularly and being a living witness to the power and importance of being nourished weekly by the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
If you haven't been around in a little while, welcome back! Please check out our Mass schedule and our Eucharist page to learn more. (*Children are encouraged to attend Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 11:00 am Sunday Mass. Also, we encourage you to follow along with your kids in the Breaking Bread hymnal to help them learn the order of the Mass and proper responses.)
